Objectives
Scope of the Policy
The SDNBVC research policy is applicable to the Faculty Members, Research Scholars, Undergraduate and Postgraduate students who are engaged in any form of research activity.
Policy Statement
The SDNBVC has constituted a Research Council to promote the research culture among Faculty and students as the basic foundation for innovative research and the future development of the Institution. The research policy of the college aims to identify research areas with academic, practical, social and economic relevance. The research policy has been framed to analyze, understand and effectively respond to all types of challenges in obtaining quality research and enhancing quality publication with a higher H-index.
Objectives:
- To strengthen the institutional capacity for technical and operational planning, budgeting and control of all research activities of the college through research framework and guidelines.
- To create and promote a culture of research among the faculty and students.
- To ensure quality, integrity and ethics in research.
- To encourage and facilitate the publication of the research works in reputed academic International / National journals/conferences.
- Encourage the staff by giving incentives to them when they publish their work in the UGC care list/ WOS/ Scopus journals with a good impact factor.
- Maintain a database of research work and research projects done by staff, scholars and students and collect data by metrics such as Citation Index, Impact Factor, H-index, SJR etc.
- Preparing budgets for supporting students and staff research projects and monitoring their utilization.
- To promote interdepartmental /interdisciplinary research projects.
- To Encourage staff and students to undertake research projects offered by agencies such as UGC, DBT, DST, DRDO, CSIR, AICTE, ICSSR, TNSCST, etc. as well as projects sanctioned by SDNB Vaishnav College Management.
- To coordinate faculty-level workshops and staff development activities on research-related improvement.

- The RC monitors the progress of the registered PhD and MPhil scholars and shall recommend fellowships and scholarships for deserving scholars.
- The management of SDNBVC is funding the research papers which are published in the Scopus/ Web of Science/ UGC CARE list and the RC scrutinizes such papers’ validity and approves for allocation of funding.
- The RC promotes collaborative interdisciplinary research projects.
- The RC facilitates the funding for UG & PG students for their Paper Presentation in Conferences/Seminars.
- The RC promotes and encourages research from Undergraduate and Postgraduate students by approving projects (YRP- Young Researcher Project) funded by management.
- It also encourages the Minor Research Projects (MRP) undertaken by the faculty members through funding by the Management.
- The RC periodically conducts review meetings to assure the proper utilisation of funds for sanctioned projects and advices the concerned researchers accordingly.
- The RC conducts regular workshops and seminars on Research topics related to various departments.
- The RC Coordinates research and consultancy services and files patents. The RC ensures that the library is well-equipped and stocked with the latest editions of books, e-journals and research databases which are very essential for conducting high-quality research work.
- The RC runs two international journals namely “International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research in Arts, Science and Commerce”, “Svādhyāya – International Journal of Transdisciplinary Research and Development (SIJTRD)” and one student journal “Sparkles” where UG and PG students can publish their research articles.

Totally there are 11 persons in the Research Cell from various departments and meetings will be conducted every month to review the research progress, fund allotment, YRP, MRP projects progress.

HONESTY
- To provide wrong information, plagiarize, fabricate, mislead, or misrepresent or misinterpret (either in writing, through electronic/online means or by any other means) is prohibited.
- Relevant licenses, and permissions wherever necessary to be obtained and protocols to be adhered.
- Diligent care of the equipment and material sources are mandatory.
- Utilize and share material resources and equipment in accordance with the conditions set by the college.
- Ensure that wastages from the laboratory are properly disposed of or treated and our research activities do not result in environmental threat.
TRANSPARENCY
- Share and communicate research methodology, data and findings openly, responsibly and accurately.
- Disclose and manage conflicts of interest.
- Maintain transparency in the use and disbursement of resources for one’s research.
FAIRNESS
- Treat fellow researchers and others involved in the research fairly and with respect.
- Appropriately provide reference and cite the work of others.
- Give credit, including authorship wherever appropriate, to those who have contributed to the research.
- Ensure that research results are accessible to the public once the research is concluded or as soon as is reasonable.
PUBLICATION AND AUTHORSHIP
- Include all authors who contributed to a particular research work and recognize them.
- Cite and acknowledge others’ work appropriately and accurately.
- Acknowledge professional and technical staff, institutions, funders, and shared facilities which have contributed to the research explicitly in all published outcomes of the research.

Research that requires the ethical committee approval shall be forwarded to the ethical committee which consists of experts from other colleges to ensure a competent and unbiased review and evaluation of all scientific research projects.

- The SDNBVC discourages plagiarism in any part of research work.
- The SDNBVC uses well-known software like URKUND, eAarjav and other online tools for plagiarism checks.
- Plagiarism policy of the parent University , University of Madras policy is followed.
- Conduct all research activities in accordance with the accepted standards of UGC guidelines.
- Ensure that only the genuine work of research is published in journals, conferences and reports.
- Observe safety practices in all the research activities.
Promotion of Research
Promotion of Research
The promotion of research is a mandatory responsibility in any Higher Education. The research culture must be developed from the Undergraduate level itself. To do so SDNBVC is running two international journals namely “International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research in Arts, Science and Commerce”, “Svādhyāya – International Journal of Transdisciplinary Research and Development (SIJTRD)” and one student journal “Sparkles” where UG and PG students are encouraged to publish their research articles. A Memorandum of Understanding is being signed with Institutions, Universities and industries within the country with the objective of promoting research and updating knowledge of current development in research.
Research and Seed Money Policy
To promote Research in a healthy direction the management sanctions seed money to the staff and students under the following headings:
- YRP Projects (Young Research Projects)
- MRP Projects (Minor Research Projects)
- Support of Publication
- Ph.D award incentive
- Support for Patent
YRP Projects (Young Research Projects)
YRP projects are being sanctioned for the UG and PG students with a department faculty member as their supervisor for an amount of 10 – 20 thousand for a period of 6 months. This will give an opportunity for young minds to tune towards research at an early stage.
MRP Projects (Minor Research Projects)
Staff are encouraged to apply for Minor Research Projects funded by management every year for an amount of Rs.1,00,000. The duration of the project is one year. The Research Cell will scrutinize the projects and the selected projects will be intimated to the respective staff.
Support of Publication
Staff is encouraged to publish in Scopus/Web of Science/UGC Care list journals for which the management is providing the funds.
PhD award incentive
To encourage the Supervisor, the management of SDNBVC sanction an amount of Rs.5000 as an incentive on the completion of each of their scholar on the day of their Viva-Voce.
Support for Patent
The expenditure for patent filing, proceedings, grant and annuity etc shall be borne by the SDNBVC.

Consultancy Policy
Consultancy Policy
Consultancy is the practice of sharing the intellectual knowledge, and expertise, as an individual staff or a group of staff members using the resources/ facilities/ infrastructure of the institution for offering solutions to the problems (received from collaborating industries/ corporate/ institutions). Consultancy services may be offered to industries, service sectors, government departments, NGOs and other national agencies.
All faculty members are encouraged to take up a consultancy with relevant institutions and corporations of high repute. Faculty should motivate the students towards participation in industrial consultancy projects.
The consultancy services at our college offers consultancy in a practical way to put the knowledge and expertise to work for the benefit of society and the wider community to provide innovative and sustainable outcomes. Our staff members have a diverse range of skills in academia and industry that would commit them to work collaboratively at all levels, including
- The service offered shall be along the lines of, “Professional Services‟ and hence carry with them obligations and other ethical requirements.
- The consultancy and related services should not interfere with the normal teaching and research in the college.
- The consultancy provided may be of two types:
- An individual staff offering consultancy on behalf of the institution
- A group/ a team of staff members offering consultancy on behalf of the institution.
- The consultancy services might include – providing subject-specific input/ offering technical assistance, data analysis, policy drafting, theoretical framework, advisory in HR/ healthcare/ business/ finance, making of prototype/ model/ product designing, framing of curriculum for new courses etc.
- A few are listed below:
- Any technical assistance ( thesis writing (DTP work in Latex etc)
- Data analysis ( statistical analysis)
- Financial advice
- Entrepreneurship advice
- Ph.D. thesis correction
- Lab evaluation result ( by using our instrumentation laboratory services like GS, HPLC, FTIR, UV Spectrophotometer and PCR)
- Applying for patent for products developed in-campus.
- Development of software etc. for industries/institutions undertaken by the faculty members wherein the facilities available in the college is utilized to a great extent.
- As a part of knowledge exchange, expertise sharing and assisting in progressing relationships with other faculty of education, training programmes can be offered to academic institutions, industry, government and private agencies where the outsiders would want to upgrade their knowledge and skill.
- SDNBVC has a strong Innovation and Incubation center, through which the students are encouraged to initiate their start-up companies and become an entrepreneur.
- Appropriate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) need to be executed between the college and industries/ corporate/ institutions, seeking consultancy services.
- A detailed work plan, including the budget needs to be approved by both the partnering institutions prior to the commencement of consultancy.
- The college management provides the necessary amenities for the consultancy services.
- Any deviation from the objectives and terms of reference of consultancy services should be approved by both the institutions.
- On completion of the consultancy, a report needs to be submitted to the college and the partnering industries/ corporate/ institutions.
- Periodical consultation meetings with faculty members to get their viewsand suggestions to identify areas for consultancy and resource mobilization from external agencies
- All consultants need to abide by the revenue sharing criteria determined by the college, which would be decided for the individual projects.

IPR Policy
IPR Policy
As a part of Policy for Promotion of Research & Innovation (PPRI), SDNBVC facilitates research and innovation activities through Infrastructure Mobilization, IPR filing, Technology Transfer etc., The research and innovation ecosystem at SDNBVC enables the faculty/student inventors to disseminate the findings through publications and protect their Intellectual property (IP).

The IP protection involves the following:
- Novelty and innovation in their project.
- Proper review to be carried out before filing IPR.
- Ensure no conflict of interest with any parties.
- No violation of agreement with any party(ies) involved in the invention directly or indirectly.
- All the authors involved are included.
- The funding agency(ies) have been acknowledged.
- The invention belongs to SDNBVC.
Ownership:
All the IPR document duly filled in must be submitted to Dean of Research Office , SDNBVC, and will be filed through authorized IP consultant of SDNBVC only. The parent applications shall be in the name of “ShrimathiDevkunvarNanalal Bhatt Vaishnav College for Women (SDNBVC)” only.
Grant for IPR:
The expenditure for patent filing , proceedings, grant and annuity etc shall be borne by the SDNBVC. The monetary benefits of IPs shall be shared with the inventors on mutually agreeable terms. When the college contributes substantial resources or support to the research or consulting effort, it reserves the right to claim a portion of the intellectual property rights.
In case the Institute has not taken the IP protection, the inventors may proceed to patent individually by funding the costs themselves, however, they would still have to name the institute as a joint applicant and execute an IP assignment agreement that will stipulate the level of ownership of the institute on case to case basis. Faculty members should ensure that any intellectual property created as a result of their research or consulting work is secured and properly credited.
Technology Transfer:
Inventors willing to opt the technology transfer for start-ups or other company/institution shall identify the potential partners in consultation with the Dean Research and Principal. The terms for legal and financial agreements shall be mutually agreed upon between the parties and facilitated by the Dean Office. After establishing License & Technology Transfer Agreement with the identified industry , the transfer of technology shall be initiated.
Conflict of Interest:
The inventor(s) are required to disclose any conflict of interest or potential conflict of interest, if the inventor (s) and/or their immediate family have a stake in a licensee or potential licensee company, then they are required to disclose the stake they and/or their immediate family have in the company. A license or an assignment of rights for a patent to a company in which the inventor(s) have a stake shall be subject to the approval of the IPR Cell.
