DAY 1: Introduction to research, its databases, and metrics

SPEAKER: Mr. Senthilkumar Umapathy

The introductory session began with the meaning and purpose of research. Topics like a research question or hypothesis, a problem statement, research gap were discussed. A brief on some standard journals and a journal selection strategy were given. The speaker also explained the importance of citations and metrics to improve the credibility and visibility of the papers.

DAY 2: Read to Shine: Pathway to skyrocket your research through literature search.
SPEAKER: Mr. Nirmal Thyagu

The speaker motivated the audience to read and search for 10 outstanding problems in their respective disciplines. The speaker emphasized the benefits of a literature search and how it can answer the questions in the mind of a researcher. It can lead to effective research.

DAY 3: Essentials of Scientific Writing

SPEAKER: Dr. Mrs. Tabitha Durai

The speaker gave an in-depth guide to writing an effective manuscript. The process of identifying research gaps was explained. Different sections in a manuscript along with a scaffolding for all the sections were detailed. An appropriate manuscript should follow the IMRaD ( Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) structure. The speaker underscored the importance of an argument matrix to organize ideas in a manuscript. A variety of digital tools to facilitate research was also discussed.

DAY 4: Nuances of journal selection

SPEAKER: Dr. Vijay Solomon

The session began with the purpose and benefits of publishing a research work. A list of premier publishing groups like Sage, Elsevier, Springer, etc., was shared. The 10 Golden Rules for journal selection were elaborated. The speaker differentiated between predatory and cloned journals and also discussed the features of both of them to help us spot them.

DAY 5: Publishing and Journal Submission

SPEAKER: Dr. Hanumanta Rao

The speaker began with the process of journal selection. A practical demonstration of using journal finders was done. The speaker emphasized the importance of scanning through the aims and scope of the journals to select the most appropriate journal to publish in. An overview of the peer review process was given.

The speaker began with a motivation to view research as a gospel rather than an obligation. The speaker gradually dived into the scope of research into the regular activities of life.Research is a consolidation of process skills like observation, classifying, communication, etc. A lot of interesting papers published along these lines were shared by the speaker.Overall, the 5-day workshop has enriched the audience to view research from a different angle and encouraged them to write a manuscript confidently.

 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

 A 1-day State level Technical workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” was conducted by the research cell of our college in collaboration with Tamilnadu State Council For Science and Technology on 18thDecember 2023 for the Research scholars and Staffs of various colleges.
