ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Statistics has been offering B.Sc.(Statistics) programme from 1984 with affiliation from University of Madras. The Department was recognised as a Research department by the University of Madras from 2012 for offering M.Phil. & Ph.D. Programmes in Statistics. So far 22 M.Phil. scholars & one Ph.D. scholar have graduated from the department while one Ph.D. scholar has submitted the Thesis to University of Madras. Currently 3 full time & 4 part time Ph.D. scholars are pursuing their research in the broad areas of Multivariate analysis, Survival Analysis, generalised Linear Models & Fuzzy Data Analysis under faculty from the department.
The department has well equipped Research Laboratory having 15 computers systems with internet facility & latest Licensed software like IBM SPSS Statistics 23, AMOS & SYSTAT and freely downloadable R programming Language apart from excellent computer labs provided by the College for conducting courses on software & computer programmes. Undergraduate students are offered programming skills in C/C++ & R language and MS EXCEL & SPSS for Data Analysis. Hands-on training on Exploratory Data Analysis through group Mini Projects is a salient feature of the programme. Apart from these students take-up Computing Skills as a Self Learning Component and Spoken Tutorials offered by Ministry of HRD and IIT Bombay as soft-skills component.

Statistics Association (d-ANALYTICA)
d-ANALYTICA conducts inter department and inter collegiate activities every year to bring out the statistics talent of the students . More than ten colleges participate within and outside Chennai. Some of the events organized by the association are Stat Hunt, face painting, collage, creative singing, poster presentation, paper presentation, treasure hunt, pot painting, quiz, poster making, Tricky stats, case study etc.
