Department Profile
The Department of Social Work was established in the year 2003 and it offers Masters Degree in Social Work (M.S.W) with specializations in Human Resources Management and Medical & Psychiatry. Besides theory learning, MSW students also undergo two days of field work training in a week, which reflects the need to learn the practical aspects of their respective field of study. The Department of Social Work, under its multitude of feathers organizes an array of activities that contribute towards enhancing social sensitivity. “Students Participatory Empowerment Forum” (SPEF), is an active Student’s body, under which all the departmental activities are carried out with great passion, zeal and social responsibility.
Specializations
- Human Resources Management
This specialization equips MSW graduates to work as HR Executives/Welfare Officers/HR Managers in public/private/service sectors. Students will be placed for training in industrial organizations to gain practical knowledge in the field. - Medical & Psychiatry
This specialization equips the MSW graduates to work as counselors/social workers in hospitals/psychiatry settings. Students will be placed for training in various settings for an all-round exposure in the field.

Association Activities
State Level Workshop for Sensitizing Teachers on Specific Learning Disability – 09/01/2020
Our students organised Workshop for school teachers on Specific Learning Disability. The main aim of the workshop is to ensure that the classroom teacher’s who plays a vital role will develop appropriate strategies to identify those specially talented kids in the schools. There were about 50 teachers from various esteemed Government and Matriculation schools.
There were three sessions in the workshop. The first session focused on classification of various disability and concept of dyslexia. The session was very interactive with the activities based on the concept. The second session was continued with causes and types of dyslexia under one umbrella. The third session started with warm up activity and focused on identification, treatment or intervention for dyslexia children.
RENAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME
The department organised a RENAL Awareness Programme on 07.09.2018. The Chief Guest for the programme was Ms. Rajalakshmi – Advisory Member – TANKER Foundation. The participants were made aware of the various causes for kidney problems, signs and symptoms for the disease and the food that should be avoided to stay healthy. The participants also signed a Signature Campaign agreeing to spread awareness about the disease.
WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
The Department observed world mental health day on 13th October 2017. Chief Guest Mr. Eshwar Balasubramaniyan – Head – Outreach Programme AVTAR explained about mental health to PG students from various departments. Our students interacted with other students inside the campus and created awareness about mental health. Also they did a street play on the theme. After which he gave an orientation about Project PUTHRI. Ms. Auxila Christina gave orientation about “One stop centre”, which is a centre for women, affected by any form of violence.
WORLD AIDS DAY -01.12.2018
Organised AIDS awareness programme at Annai sathya Nagar, Near War Memorial, Chennai. Students performed street play and created awareness about AIDS.
Observing International Day for person with Disabilities – 03/12/2018
Organised various competitions for the children in Spastics society of Tamilnadu. The children actively participated in the events. Our students performed dance and puppetry.
Observing World Navy Day -17/12/18
We visited the Navy port and performed mime emphasising the service of navy personnel to the society.
Observing Human Rights Day -7/12/18
Our students performed Mime, Street play and created awareness on child rights. Importance of Child helpline “CHILDLINE 1098” was given by Chief Guest to PSBB Matriculation School at Mangadu.
SPARK – UTOPIA ’19 Intercollegiate Cultural fest – 22/02/19
Our students conducted SPARK – UTOPIA’19 an intercollegiate cultural fest on 22nd February 2019. Students from various colleges across Chennai have enrolled and participated in various on-stage and off-stage events. The event was inaugurated by MR. Naveen Muralidhar, KPY Contestant of Star Vijay. Musically Fame Mr. Vishnu Unnikrishnan gave his August presence in the valedictory session and gave away the prizes to the winners. The overall trophy is won by MCC College – Tambaram.

Place: O.M.Mangalam and Sivapuram Village, Sriperambudur Taluk, Kancheepuram District.
40 students (Both 1 and II MSW Students) along with 2 staff members Mrs.Helen Sha Diana., Assistant Professor and Ms.Priyadharshini K, Assistant Professor stayed in the village and created awarness on various topics.
